By the end of 2013, Hubby will have spent 6 months at home and 6 months at work. (My heart goes out to the ladies that get even less time with their men!) With so much time spent a part, finding ways to communicate and keep our bond strong is one of my top priorities.
That being said, I wanted to explore some of the ways us wives can keep in touch with our men. (Some of these involve internet, which isn’t always available or reliable.)
Cell phone- Ah, the good old cell phone. I am lucky that I get a call from Hubby almost every day. Even when the signal is crap and it takes several tries for him to get through, it’s the best five minutes of my day. We also text a lot, especially on days when he sleeps in late and doesn’t have time to call. My phone is also my go-to for sending Hubby pictures of the kids and for getting pictures of him working. (Thank God for unlimited text messaging!)
FaceTime- If you are an iPhone family and you both have access to Wi-Fi, you can FaceTime! This also works if you have an iPad or iPod touch. Hubby and I love our iPhones, but we never use this feature because there is no internet at his rig.
Skype- Just like FaceTime, you will need an internet connection for this to work. Skype can be used on a variety of devices and allows the user to make voice and video calls. I love Skype and use it to keep up with some of my college friends. Check out the website for information on downloading the program.
Tango- Tango is much like FaceTime with the exception that you can use 3G or 4G as well as Wi-Fi. (Just watch your data limits!) You can download the app through your phone or go to the website for more information.
Snail Mail- Long before the days of internet and smart phones, there was this thing called mail. One of my favorite things to do when Hubby was deployed was to send care packages. What better way to show you care than to send them the little things that make them happy? This might involve your hubby paying for a P.O. Box, but it might be worth it if he is away for extended periods of time. Maybe he can even get a few guys to go in on it with him. If your husband is offshore or overseas, this might not be an option.
How do you stay connected? Offshore and Overseas wives, are you able to connect with your husband often? How? Leave your answer in the comment section or send me a tweet @Ofwjaimie!
